TASK 7. Looking Back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Main Task: Here are the Screen Grabs that I have got from after we had edited our Main Task. We edited our thriller on Final Cut Pro, and got the screen grabs from it:

Prelim Task:

For our Thriller I thought that I had learnt so much more compared to how we shot our Preliminary Task. I really enjoyed shooting our Preliminary task, as it was a completely new experience to me. I thought it helped a lot as I now know how to shoot my Thriller correctly as I have had a bit of experience before using the camera that we shot with.

When I watched my preliminary task I thought that they were so different compared to my Main task, by the standard that we had improved on as a group. By how we used the correct actors, props, costume design and the set design, as we were way more prepared to shoot our main Thriller. When we were shooting our Preliminary task there was no planning at all towards our shoot, as we didn’t really know what we were doing on the shoot day. We were split up into groups and given a script for the actors to read.

For our main Thriller shoot, our group had been planning it for months so we could get everything perfectly planned out. We spent most our time planning our shots, props and the lighting that we would use in our Thriller. I thought the development of the smoothness movement of the camera work in our main task had improved dramatically from the set up to the use of the camera in our Preliminary task. I think this came from our confidence as a group, but as experience as we used the camera a lot more.

When we were shooting our Preliminary task we were given allocated areas to film our scene. When we came into the room were we were going to shoot, everything was set up ready for us to use. Were when were shooting our main Thriller task we had set everything up as we had spent weeks on planning our Thrillers.

Our main task took much more organizing, as we had to go out and get the props for as cheap as possible as we didn’t want to spend a lot of money for our main task. We also had to print out 5o pieces of paper that had stock certificates printed on it. We had to build a dummy that would be strong enough to stay together after falling down a couple of times.

In our preliminary task the two sequences in the preliminary task were very simple shots, as we had chopped off the top of the heads in the shot and were either dead on as we didn’t use any composition. For our main task our shots were more complex as we used diegetic sound, tracking shots and the use of all the credits on Final Cut Pro. How we were able to correctly edit the main task with all the shots in the correct order and being able to crop unwanted objects out of the shot.

As my task was to put in the sound I had to make it fit the story by using a wind sound, and then a increased sound to reveal the end of our thriller. I have learnt so much more from the beginning of the year as I am now able to create a thriller on my own. In the terms of filming and editing my thriller I thought I was capable of being confident and showing that I could use a camera correctly.
